Trip Down Memory Lane

Sorry there hasn’t been many new pictures recently.  Graham and I have been between weddings but I assure you there will be a new update in a few weeks.  I figured that I would share some personal pictures from our last trip to New York in the meantime. We went to visit my grandparents who live on Long Island.  We had just gotten engaged so I was excited to show them my ring and share the exciting story about the proposal.  My grandmother, a woman who isn’t really know for her warm fuzzy side, surprisingly decided to show me her engagement ring, which I have never seen her wear before.  She had it in a box in the basement, held by a rubber-band, under a pile of sheets (which I remedied before I left, advising her to put it in her safe).  Funny how something I hate to take off even to get in the shower, my grandmother had in a dusty box in the basement.

Here is my Grandma’s ring.

Here is my ring …

Big difference huh! I guess it was popular at some time to take your ring and “update” it.  Translation: add a lot more diamonds.  The original ring is the center band, with a round diamond flanked by baguettes. Now the thing dwarfs my finger!  It is no wonder my little frail Italian grandmother doesn’t wear it all the time. One arm would hang lower than the other.

She then decided she would share her wedding album with me.  I had never seen the album before either. It was so much fun.

It is hard to tell in the picture above but this one page had a pic of the whole wedding party and half of them had their eyes closed!  It reminded me that no photographer is perfect.

I suggest that all newly engaged couples take the trip down memory lane with their parents and grandparents if they can.  See their wedding album, let them tell you the story of how they met and then got engaged.  How they planned their wedding.  It was an experience I will always remember sharing with them.
